Norton, KS

July 13

    We drove to Norton.

July 14

In the morning, we went to a car show in Norton. We also visited some shops in downtown Norton. We ate lunch at Pizza Hut. We spent a relaxing afternoon at home.

July 15

We went to church in the morning. When we came home, I went for a run in the 95 degree weather and then had lunch.

July 16

Austin and Ashley started their football and basketball camps today. I went for a run after breakfast. For lunch, we went to Subway and met with Sonya, my mom's best friend's mom. Then did nothing in the afternoon. We went to the Cox's house for dinner.

July 17

Sports camps continued. A run in the morning again. After lunch, Brianna and me got our haircuts. After I got my haircut, I went to the Basketball Court to shoot a little. We went for dinner to the Collip's house.

July 18

I went for a walk with mom and dad in the morning and night. Again, went to the basketball court to shoot baskets. When we got home, I helped dad make granola. We had pork chops for dinner with corn and potatoes. We got to bed pretty early.

July 19

I woke up at 9 o'clock and went for a run then a walk with my mom and grandma. I had doughnuts for breakfast.

Tummons Farm

July 8

We went to my grandparents churh in Fariview, KS. It is a very small church, consisting mainly of old people. Of course, everybody there knew us.

July 9

I woke up and went for a run. My cousin, Morgan, came up from Olathe, KS to see us. We spent the afternoon with her.

July 11

In the evening, we went to a Beef Show at the Brown County Fair. We saw some of our distant cousins show cattle. Brianna and Ashley rode on two very scary rides, but they didn't think the same. We got home at 9 o'clock and had dinner.

July 12

We went to Topeka to do some shopping. Mom and me went to Kohl's by ourselves while everyone else went to eat lunch. We shopped a while. Dad came to pick us up but the funny thing was that he left Austin, Brianna, and Ashley by themselves at the mall. We went back to the mall and shopped at EddieBauer. Then went to the theaters to watch the new movie Brave. After we went to FamousFootwear to get Austin and Ashley shoes for a sports camp in Norton. We concluded our trip at Target. We drove home and had a yummy, delicious dinner of hamburgers, corn, and potato caseerole. But what I learned today was that don't bring people that don't want to shop to Topeka with you! ... it makes it more stressful and confusing and you get really inpatient.

16th Birthday

July 6

My sixteenth birthday was today. My dad made me bacon and pancakes. Mom, Dad, and Ashley left for Topeka after lunch for a doctor's appt. and to do some shopping. The rest of us ate lunch and went to the timber. We spent the afternoon there. Then went home and got ready to go to Topeka to eat dinner at Olive Garden. It took us 30 minutes more time than expected because of the construction work and we had to stop and get gas. We had a nice dinner at Olive Garden and we all came out stuffed with salad, breadsticks, appetizers, and our meal.

We drove home. I drove home with Grandpa and grandma so we stopped at Dollar General so they could get me a card :). While my parents stopped at DQ to pick up my cake.

When we got home, they locked me in a room while they prepared things. Then I came out and they sang "Happy Birthday!" to me and we ate icecream cake. I opened my presents. I got lots of money, 3 T-shirts, and ipod case.

Overall, it was a fun day. Now I am 16!

Independence Day

July 4

We had a late morning because of our 10-day trip. Grandpa, Austin, Brianna, Dad, and me went up to the farm to check on the cows. We drove the fourwheeler down into the timber and looked at the cows. Since dad was there grandpa kept stopping and talking to him about this and that (the story of my life!). We had a relaxing afternoon. At night we headed to Bern for pork barbecue dinner, pie, country music, and a 30-minute firework show.

Washington DC

...June 24

We flew to Washington DC, ate lunch at Applebee's, and then we visited Mount Vernon.

We ate dinner at Taco Bell before arriving at Richmond, Virginia.

  •     June 25
We saw John and Virginia and Isaiah.
  •     June 28
Brianna and me went to Williamsport.

June 30

After leaving Richmond, we drove to see the Battles of Freidriksburg, where the Civil War was fought. Also, we drove through the Old Historic Freidriksburg.

July 1

We took the metro into Washington DC. We visited the National Air and Space Museum & Natural History Museum. We also saw the Washington Memorial.

July 2

Today, we drove into Washington DC. We first visited the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. After the Memorial, we saw the White House. Then went for lunch. Then visited the Capitol. After the Capitol, we went to Jefferson Memorial and Iwo Jima. Then concluded the evening with dinner at Chile's.

July 3

We went to Arlington Cemetry. At Arlington we visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and watched the changing of the guards. We also visited Kennedy’s Tomb, where almost all of the ‘important’ Kennedy’s are buried like President Kennedy, his wife, daughter, son, and brother. After lunch we visited the Natural Museum of American History. Then we headed to the airport, dropped off our rental car, and got on our plane to Kansas. After waiting on the runway on the airplane, our plane got rerouted to Kansas. (This shows how unlucky we are.) And got to Kansas 45-60 minutes after planned. We ate dinner at TacoBell and got home at around 10:30.

First Week in America

The rest of the week we spent around the farm doing different things.

June 19

Dad, mom, Brianna, and me went to Walmart. We bought lots of fruits and vegetables (since they are what we have daily in Turkey), and lots of fun, little American snacks. We also bought little things like sunscreen, allergy med, socks, some clothes...

June 20

I woke up and went for a run as that was the best time in the day to go because, unlike Turkey, Kansas gets really hot around 5 o'clock and so no time left to run.

In the afternoon, Grandpa sharpened the blaids on the mower and I mowed their big lawn. IT was a hot and dirty job. So... I had to take another shower that day.

June 21

Today, we headed to Topeka about 50 minutes south of my grandparents' house. We needed to go shopping for different things. For example, for a wedding on Friday and our trip to Virginia/ Wash. DC the next week.

We went to Kohl's and spend most of our morning there. Dad started to get hungry so we checked out and went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. I had ham with mac and cheese, creamy corn, biscuits, and homemade, frozen lemonade.

After lunch, we went to a mall and went to JcPenny, EddieBauer, and Old Navy. Even though most of us were exhausted we still had more shopping to do. We went to Famous Footwear to find shoes. I bought blue flats to go with my dress for the wedding we were going to. We went to Target, which was right next to FamousFootwear, and finished up our shopping.

After a 50-60 minute drive home, we unpacked everything and started to prepare dinner. Dad grilled hamburgers on the grill and we also boiled sweet corn for dinner. And of course we had tater tots and applesauce to go with our hamburgers. Due to the low temperature outside, we ate outside on the picnic table.

June 22

The family at the wedding.
In the morning, we prepared to go to Kansas City to attend my mom's cousin's wedding. We packed all of our wedding clothes and other things, and left Grandpa and Grandma Tummons' house early in the morning. We hit the road for 2 hours to KC.

Dad and Mom
Austin and Grandpa Anthony

We left early enough to meet Grandpa Anthony, mom's dad, at Crowne Plaza Hotel and go to eat lunch nearby. After lunch, we went to Grandpa's room to rest before and get ready for the wedding.

Brianna and me

Brianna and Austin

We attended the wedding ceremony, saw lots of family and some friends, ate JackStack Barbecue dinner, enjoy sugar cookies, and have fun dancing to music.

Ashley and Mom

Ashley and Taylor, second cousin

After the wedding, we drove home and didn't get home until 1 am.

June 23

The next day, we woke up late from our previous late night. We had a leisurly breakfast. Grandpa, Dad, Brianna, and Austin went up to the farm. Grandma, Ashley, and me stayed home doing unscrabbling word puzzle (even though we didn't finish it).

Grandpa Anthony came up to Tummons' House late in the morning. We had lunch of hamburgers and other stuff. We spent the afternoon with Grandpa around the house. At the same time we were doing laundry, packing our bags and getting ready for our trip to Virginia/ Wash. DC.

After Grandpa A. left we finished our packing and ate dinner and retired to bed early.

June 24

The alarm was set to 5 o'clock in order to leave at 5:30 in time to get there and park our car and catch our flight at 8 am.

But... We woke up at 5:20 because grandma woke us up or we would have missed our flight. I guess dad didn't have his alarm turned "ON".

We still got to the airport, parked, and got to our flight on time.

First Day in America

June 18

Brianna and me on the farm.

Grandpa's cows on the farm.
Newborn little calf

On the first day in America, we were at Grandpa and Grandma Tummons' House. When we woke up we all went up to the farm, where the cows were, and looked at them as well as driving down into the timber. We watched grandpa help a calf feed itself because it is a little dump/ stupid. In the timber we picked black raspberries and blueberries, walked down the creek and crossed it. Dad and grandpa spent a lot of time talking farm, cows and so forth.

We came back and had yummy burgers with grass finished beef and cheese. After lunch, we sat around the table eating chocolate and Turkish stuff we had brought back. Also my parents gave my grandparents there 'presents' from Turkey- towels, sunflower seeds, chips, nuts...

We spent the rest of the day inside resting as it was the hottest time of day. Later in the afternoon, I went for run along with my mom on the busy highway my grandparents live on and country roads.

Journey to America Continued

Coming soon...

Journey to America

 June 16

We woke up early in the morning on Saturday and headed to the airport. We checked in and got to the airplane in no time. After a 3 hour plane ride we arrived in Zurich, Switzerland. We got off the plane and looked at the gate/terminal on the screen. On the screen it displayed that our plane to Wash. DC was cancelled. We were shocked. We got through security and were told we were going to spend the night in Zurich. Our worst nightmare had come true. We had never had a cancelled flight and never even imagined it.

After picking up our bags, we went to the ticket office to purchase new tickets and explore different options of getting home. Most of the United flights were full. Finally in the end, we decided to take the 10 o'clock flight to New York to Houston and finally to Kansas City.

After all that time waiting in the airport, we took a 5-minute shuttle to the Hilton Hotel. We check-in and quickly ate lunch, then rested for about 30 minutes. We de\cided to go to town and tour around "Old Town" Zurich. We took a shuttle back to the airport, then a 15-minute train to Old Town Zurich. We visited St. Peter's Church, one of the oldest churches in Zurich, and visited Lake Zurich. We visited a store and bought tons of chocolate, icecream, swiss cheese, and coffee. We ate Movempick swiss chocolate icecream. All four of us shared 1 pint of icecream. We headed back to the hotel after a very long day and concluded our evening with wonderful, delicious food at the hotel.

The next day, we went to Riva Beach to celebrate his birthday with his friends.

This is the cake I made for him for the beach.
They swam and played in the Black Sea.
